The Malawi Stock Exchange (MSE) operates under the Companies Act 1984, the Capital Market Development Act 1990, the Securities Act 2010, and the Financial Services Act 2010. The stock exchange was established in 1994 and started trading on November 11, 1996. Prior to trading the MSE's major activities were the provision of a facility for secondary market trading in Government of Malawi bonds.
The Malawi stock exchange has a manual callover conducted in Malawi (MWK) operating between 10:30 am and 11:00am. Deals are settled on a t+3 basis with no Central Securities Depository.
